Tera's wish

velvet stamping

Have you seen the fabric on the market that is velvet with areas that are embossed with a design where the fuzzy part of the velvet is gone? That is velvet stamping! This is such a FUN project for the holidays. There are velvet papers available on the market now that you can use in crafting, or you can do it with fabric. The possibilities for this are endless.

Supplies:

Velvet: all rayon or rayon/silk work best. Stay away from nylon, polyester or acetate velvets as they do not take the impressions as well. You can also use velvet paper.

Stamps: Large simple designs are best.

Iron: pre heat to medium temperature. Do not use steam.

Ironing board or heat resistant surface.

Spray bottle with water (I use distilled.)

How to do it:

Place the stamp on your ironing board or a firm, heat resistant surface. Place the fabric fuzzy side down on the stamp image.

Mist the back side of the fabric until it is very damp but not dripping. With my spray bottle three to four spritzes seems to be right.

Hold the iron over the stamp and fabric for 20 - 30 seconds.

Lift and marvel at your genius! Enjoy!
