Tera's wish

unstoppable

Would you believe me if I told you that you had super-human powers? That you could make a wish, and virtually guarantee that it would come true? Well, the truth is that superman (or woman) resides in all of us - we just happen to follow the fashion for wearing Kryptonite around our neck so we feel powerless!
In a recent article, Anne Lamott wrote that most people live their lives like the Professor on Gilligan's Island. They make generators out of palm fronds, and vaccinations from algae, but they never quite get around to fixing the hole in the boat so they can go home. Sound familiar?

Unstoppable

So, how do you find this power within you? Well, first you have to acknowledge that it is there. Let me give you an example . . . I may have talked about this before. Lets say one afternoon you come home and find your house is on fire. You suddenly realize that your spouse or your children are inside. What would it take to stop you from getting inside that house?

We've all heard stories about frail grandmothers lifting cars to free a child underneath. There are countless stories of human accomplishment beyond recognized boundaries. This is because we are wearing Kryptonite fashioned from our own fears. You are unstoppable - and not just when you are afraid for others, not just in an emergency - that capacity lies dormant within you all of the time.

What are you willing to do?

On the door of my office is taped the following quote from Ralph Marston's Daily Motivator. (Unconditional Success, Nov 6, 1998) It says, in part,
"Success comes more quickly and more surely to those who refuse to put conditions on their commitment. An attitude of "whatever is convenient" won't accomplish very much. An attitude of "whatever it takes" is impossible to stop."

"Unconditional commitment produces unconditional success. . It will rarely be convenient and will often be uncomfortable. It will interrupt your favorite TV show, and ask that you drive to the other side of town or fly to the other side of the world. It will require that you meet new people, learn new skills, get up earlier in the morning.

Whatever it takes, for as long as it takes -- that will accomplish anything."

It is so Easy for Other People!

I have recently renewed a relationship with someone I knew many years ago. She came to our house and after spending the evening with us she said, "everything has always come so easy for you, Tera. I've tried, but I couldn't have a life and do all that work". My husband and I just looked at each other and laughed. We didn't even know how to tell her that after four years we still work 16 - 18 hours a day on our business. Nothing has come easily to us - but sometimes it looks that way to people who are just starting on the path to their dreams.

Don't do that to yourself. It isn't easy for anyone. Even "over night successes" spend years and years preparing for their "instant success". There is not such thing as "get rich quick". It takes work, but when you are doing what you love, it comes much easier!

Your Wish is Your Brain's Command

The truth is that, within reason, you can have ANYTHING you want out of life if you made a decision and are willing to do what it takes to reach that goal. When I say "within reason", I mean within the realm of possibility. If you are a 50 year old 5' 4" female, setting a goal to play basketball professionally with the New York Knicks probably isn't going to happen, no matter how hard you work.

Don't limit yourself, however, to goals that other people approve of! Believe me, if anyone that knew me at ate 18 had been told that I would have done what I have done with my life, they would have laughed themselves sick. But YOU know what you are capable of. You have to believe in yourself even when no one else does!

Your brain does not have an independent reasoning system. It is like a navigational computer. When you set course for a goal, your brain will help get you there. Conversely, when you tell yourself that you CAN'T do something, your brain takes that data in as well. When you find yourself telling yourself what you can't do, or what is possible, erase that and rephrase it.

So, Superperson . . . are you ready to get started? The first step to taking off that Kryptonite necklace is to set some goals so you can flex your powers. Don't forget about the Goal Setting Workshop. It is EASY . . . just answer questions on eight subjects and do a wrap up! You can do this!
