Instructions:
1.
Seal
surface with J.W. etc. White Lightning. This product seals the area and
stains it with a whitewash effect.
2.
When
thoroughly dry, apply pattern. I recommend Chaco-Paper because it is
easily removed with water.
Hint: the secret to this type of painting is to
apply the basecoats first with a very light wash. Do not even be
tempted to touch the piece until the basecoats are dry. Then you will
go in and apply the details and final lining.
3.
Basecoats
(very soft washes of color!):
- Chair: Boysenberry.
- Tray (on the wall above the chair): Desert
Turquoise
- Back of the fireplace: Hauser Green Light
- Hearth: Sunflower Yellow
- Foot of the Chair & Fireplace Logs: Milk
Chocolate.
4.
Float or Sideloads:
- Night Sky: Float around the perimeter of the
inside panel of the rug. Float the vertical sides of the vase.
- Golden Straw: with the paint facing towards the
back of the fireplace, float he back of the hearth, and just in front
of the mantle. With a very thin float, shade under the mantle, above
and below each horizontal piece on the side of the mantle.
- Taupe: With the paint facing towards the bottom of
the drawing, float a line where the bottom of the wall meets the floor.
Reversing the color so that the paint is up against the hearth, float a
line in front of the hearth, under the chair and to the right of the
rug. (Be sure to let your paint dry between floats so that you don't
lift the paint in overlapping areas.)
- Burnt Umber; shade right side of the foot of the
chair and the ends of the logs. Using the round brush, draw in a few
horizontal lines for the wood.
- Blueberry: Shade around the edges of the tray
(paint towards the outside of the tray). Once that is dry, shade the
inner rim of the dray, (paint towards outside of tray again.)
- Royal Fuchsia: chair.
- Hauser Green Medium: Shade under and left side of
back of the fireplace (to the right of the mantle)
5.
Details:
- Hauser Green Light: with round brush, paint in
leaves in vase, tray and rug.
- Pumpkin: paint in three flowers with round brush.
These should be very wispy. With more paint and less water in brush,
draw in some flames. Wash in top book.
- Boysenberry: Pink flowers in vase, tray and rug.
Because you are painting over paint, you will need to use more paint
and less water on tray.
- Royal Fuchsia: with Script Liner, draw in accent
lines on flowers.
- Sunflower Yellow: flower on tray, a few more
flames from logs, and pages of books (on floor to left of chair)
- Blueberry: paint in cradle for firewood in
fireplace.
- Desert Turquoise: wash in bottom book spine.
6.
Liner:
- Night Sky: line outside of vase, edge of rug
inset, outside of rug.
- Hauser Green Medium: Line leaves.
- Plantation Green: accent lines on leaves and tray.
- Royal Fuchsia: line chair
- Blueberry: line tray, bottom book.
- Sunflower Yellow: line fireplace, and line in
fireplace details. Line hearth.
- Lamp Black: line in Sinatra, the cat, frame around
box and lettering (you may prefer to use a pen liner for lettering, or
DecoArt's fine liner pen.
- Pumpkin: line top book.
- Burnt Umber: line chair foot.
7.
Finishing:
once the piece is very dry, seal it with a coat of Right Step.
