Tera's wish

what you focus on expands

The holidays seem to create contradiction in our lives. It is supposed to be a time of abundance, and yet we feel rushed, broke and tired much of the time! Abundance comes with our ability to live and manifest our own vision of what our lives should be like. To do that, of course, we must know what we want our lives to be like!

Focus:

Have you ever learned a new word and suddenly that word is in everything you read? Or someone brings a car to your attention, and then everywhere you look you see that car. Do you wonder the reason for that synchronicity? It is simple, having learned about it, our ability to see and identify it comes into focus. In other words we become more aware of it in our lives.

You can harness the power of that awareness in what you focus on. If you decide to write a book, for example, you put that thought into motion. When opportunities that would help you come your way, you suddenly see them. Before making that decision, the same opportunities would have passed you by simply because you were not aware of their importance to you.

For that reason, when you concentrate on the good things in your life, you become more aware of the goodness in your life. There are two things happening here; you become more aware of the good things that already exist in your life, and you create more of it because you are open to it.

What we want our lives to be like:

This is the hardest part for many people. What do I want?

I have recently gone through my own mini-crisis over what I was focusing on. My life went through a sudden change and I began to question what I was doing with my own life. I had a job offer and I wondered if maybe I should go the route of a safe paycheck rather than the nomad life of an independent artist. As I thought about it, I became more and more depressed.

Finally I realized that what made me happy was creating. I love to write, to paint -- to create in as many ways as possible. The more new things I try - from fine art to crafts - the happier I am. When I began to focus on my life, as it would be if I were able to do all those things, I felt real peace for the first time in days.

What your purpose in life is - your vision for what you life should be - is already inside of you. You know what resonates inside of you. You know what makes you feel excited. That is not necessarily what is easy, or what others will expect or even encourage you to do. It is only the goals that are exciting to us that will compel us forward. You have to have passion for what you are working for or you aren't going to be doing it when things get tough.

You have to believe that you know what is right for you. It may not feel like it, but deep inside of you - you know. It can be downright scary to put your dreams out there publicly. I can tell you that even today I have moments when I think 'can I really do this?' That is a natural part of the process. Whatever it is that is inside of you, whatever your purpose - it comes from inside of you. You intuitively know it. You just have to get quiet and admit it to yourself and hold on to that knowledge. Focus on it. Make it true.
